B-Stock Pono MTDC Cutaway Solid Mahogany Tenor Ukulele

Special Price £505.00 £420.83 Regular Price £557.10

Take the already excellent satin finish Pono MT, add a beautiful gloss finish, a cutaway, and replace the rosewood fittings with ebony and you have the very wonderful Pono MTDC deluxe tenor. The gloss finish not only makes the grain in the wood look absolutely sensational, but brightens the sound as well, as the wood is hardened by the gloss finish. And the ebony fittings help to increase the sustain and volume, as it is a denser wood than rosewood so fewer vibrations are soaked up, meaning more sound.

This instrument can handle anything asked of it with ease. Fingerpicking, even at low intensity, is crystal clear with bags of sustain, lead playing and chord playing up the neck intonates well and retains the volume you get in the first few positions. Chord strumming sounds very clear, each note in the chord separated nicely, and very well balanced. And the cutaway allows you free access up to the dusty end as well.

This gloss Pono tenor ukulele is the brighter of the two - if you want an even mellower sound, the satin finish Pono MT would be a better choice.

This instrument is new but has been listed as B-stock because we have fitted two strap buttons for a customer that then opted for a different instrument.

About the Pono line:

The “Pono” line is made by Ko’olau one of the oldest and most traditional Hawaiian ukulele manufacturers. Ko’olau’s goal throughout the years has been to provide the highest quality stringed instruments available with a high standard of craftsmanship.

As well as optimising their instruments for tone and volume, Pono stress the importance of cosmetic beauty. Only the finest grades of quartersawn hardwoods, such as mahogany, rosewood, and ebony are selected for Pono instruments.

However, only 20% pass the stringent requirements of density, grain patterns, flexibility, and cosmetic aesthetics. This is virtually unknown, especially in the Asian import market. We are proud of the fact that all of the Pono instruments are made of solid woods.
