I'll let you all in on a secret... When we write these listings Rob or I (Alex) will often play the Ukulele and scribble down words that come to mind to help us describe what to expect when you hear the instrument being played. The reason I am mentioning this is because I literally couldn't find the right descriptive words for this uke when I played it. It looks dark and chocolatey and this usually gives you an idea about what to expect but the sound this instrument produced is neither dark or creamy but instead incredibly pure, unfiltered and extremely balanced in a way you don't really associate with Blackwood or other derivities of Acacia.

This Perkins Blackwood Tenor has an almost piano cabinet like quality about it, the C note has an effortless sustain and unwavering slow decay and I can imagine this being one of the nicest fingerpicking instruments to play at any price. As I write this description/review I am playing this Ukulele in High G and it sounds sublime - I can only imagine that a Low G string would also fit harmoniously into the mix on this uke without sounding over compressed or too boomy.

The way that Chris carves his necks is to be admired - this Ukulele has a 38mm nut width but a nice thin neck depth and a lovely taper that means you get a flat point to rest your thumb on the back. This kind of thing is also a feature of Kanile'a and Romero Creations Ukuleles but you rarely see it being adopted by UK based Luthiers. What I am trying to say is that if you like a 38mm nut width but don't have long fingers; this is the neck for you.

Finally, the body shape of this Ukulele is almost cello like. It's certainly comfortable to hold but gives the instrument an almost Jumbo Tenor voicing... Well done Chris Perkins for gifting us something special once again.
