Using only the finest cuts of Koa, this uke is made by Japanese master builder Shinji Takahashi and a very highly skilled team to a stratospheric standard on the sunny island of Oahu. Using Japanese construction techniques and values with Hawaiian materials makes for the perfect blend of quality and character.

The wood on these instrument is a wonder to behold. They have managed to source beautifully tight, straight grained wood, which makes for excellent sound and which opens up really beautifully over time. If you think that this sounds amazing when you first try it, in two years time it will be astonishing.

The neck is very slim and slinky in profile, so the instrument sits very easily in the hand and seems to make long stretches to reach widely spread chords very easy indeed. The 36mm nut width is slightly larger than standard, which is 35mm, and although it seems a small difference it allows a very comfortable positioning of fingers for barre chords and the like.

IMUA are the emerging new stars of the Hawaiian Ukulele world. Founded by the man originally behind Big Island/Honu Ukuleles; Jorma Winkler has worldwide links with the finest woods available in the world and in IMUA Ukuleles it really shows. IMUA simply have some of the most gorgeous looking and sounding tonewoods and continue to make them into a comfortable, well built Ukulele to be enjoyed. The Ukulele build designs can be credited to Shinji Takahashi, master luthier from Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan who overseas production in Honolulu.

The Imua gloss finishes are a little bit rustic like the Sumi and Kamaka Ukuleles due to the traditional nature of the design and build. The result is a semi open pore finish that displays quite a few little pits in the finish under closer examinations.. This can take some people by surprise but is sadly often a byproduct of trying to achieve a super light gloss finish.
