Kala KA-SPT-SC Scalloped Cutaway All Solid Spruce top Pau Ferro Tenor Ukulele

The scalloped tenor Kala cutaway ukulele is quite lovely instrument. It has beautiful solid spruce on the top and laminate pau ferro on the back and sides. The top also features lovely bear claw figuring in the wood, but like with any features the pattern will be different on each one. If you are confused as to what this is, what looks like stretch marks in the photos is actually this bear claw figuring!

Rosewood is now being phased out from the Kala range. This new model replaces the SRT-SC, which was in all other ways identical except it had rosewood back and sides. Rosewood has been such desirable wood because of its stiffness and hardness. That means it soaks up fewer vibrations than softer woods, thereby allowing more sound to project from the instrument.

Pau ferro does the same trick, it's a very hard wood, so this model has not lost any of its mojo at all. If anything, it might be slightly prettier than rosewood! And it has that strong, balanced and expressive sound that spruce is so famous for. From quiet picking to vigorous strumming, this Kala tenor ukulele can do the lot, with warmth in the bass and brightness in the trebles. Yum!
