Kanile'a D-1 B PRO Master Grade Hawaiian Koa Baritone Ukulele #28881

5 years ago, Kanile'a introduced a platinum model concept instrument with a D shaped soundhole off set to one side. These Ukuleles are designed to angle the sound of the instrument upwards towards the player and give the instruments player the full experience of every little detail and eccentricity of their playing. Visually, the D shaped soundhole offers something quite unique and the mixture of practicality and the pleasing aesthetic nature of these ukuleles quickly made them a huge hit for Kanile'a. The following year, Kanile'a introduced limited custom runs of these Ukuleles in Tenor and Baritone size with custom Redwood or high grade Koa tops. It just made sense after all, these ukes are gorgeous and more and more players were choosing them from the pack of other impressive options Kanile'a had.

Enter 2025 and Kanile'a have switched up things in a positive way. The Natural, Core and Pro series offers more levels of customisation to the Kanile'a Ukuleles being produced and it made sense to introduce the D-1. The D-1 Ukuleles simplify the D shape and have a slightly altered position for the internal bracing and instruments soundhole. The pro spec models also have an additional side sound port which lines up with the D soundhole nicely to create a really even spread and vast sound back towards the player. The fact this happens without diminishing the outward sound of the ukulele to somebody in front of the Ukulele is a marvel.

This D-1 B Pro model is the first ever D shaped Kanile'a Baritone we have had at Southern Ukulele Store and the Koa was selected by Alex on his visit to Hawaii in January 2025. The instrument was going through assembly when we were taking our tour of the factory and we just couldn't bare the thought of leaving it behind. This Pro model has a Master Grade Hawaiian Koa top, back and sides along with the upgraded side-port and Black Tusq Nut and Saddle. Under the top is a uniquely positioned TRU-R bracing system and Kanile'a have reduced the weight and thickness of the top using the new TRU Reduction technique. There is a lot of innovation on this instrument.

It sounds incredible. Phil commented on unboxing it and playing it on arrival that it was the 'richest sounding ukulele he has ever played'. We certainly love it! We know you will too...
