We're big fans Kanile'a ukuleles, it's not exactly a secret with them being the uke of choice for many of the staff who work here. We have collaborated with them many times on special one off ukuleles and even our famous 'Manako' and 'Manu Hu' ranges. Occasionally I get woken in the middle of the night with pictures from our friends in Hawaii showing us special instruments coming through production and that is what happened here.

Kanile'a do not tend to use 'Master Grade' Hawaiian Koa wood sets on production instruments anymore as the wood is scarce and usually reserved for bespoke customs and/or the Platinum models which fetch £6000+.

This particular HNS-T would have looked special without the absolute top shelf AAAAA Hawaiian Koa because the simple abalone aesthetic details are more than enough to melt our hearts... The honu inlay on the lower half of the top is a gorgeous reminder of Hawaii's famous turtles and the uke on the whole looks and feels like a true heirloom quality piece of useable art. It sounds like it looks, it even smells good.

The bracing system is super light and stiff, allowing the instrument to ring out with impressive sustain and clarity. It has a touch and release pattern which only touches here the wood needs support. This means the wood is able to ring for longer and doesn't soak up the vibrations from the strings.

This ukulele also has Kanile'as special 25th anniversary label. The first time in 15 years a new label has been used in Kanile'a instruments.
