Kanile'a make some of the finest ukuleles on the sunny island of Oahu. The K-1 is the standard 'no thrills' Hawaiian koa tenor ukulele from Kanile'a meaning it has little in the way of cosmetic upgrades like rosettes, binding or cutaways. Furthermore, the company's master luthier and company owner Joe Souza is an 8 string man himself so its only natural they would strive to make the best 8 string ukuleles in the world. The shape and poise of a Kanile'a 8 string is designed with the subtely elongated paddle headstock and clever dual slot 8 string pin bridge. They don't feel heavy, unbalanced or cumbersome, somehow a Kanile'a 8 string is a joyful effortless 8 string ukulele experience.

They feel so light in the hand, thanks to very clever bracing and beautifully refined, high quality thin wood being used, in this case select Hawaiian koa which was chosen for its unique look, this one stands out on its own due to the unique mix of colours across the wood with visible light heart wood... I haven't seen one like this in a long time, its very special.

Everything on Kanile'a ukuleles is designed to maximise vibrations - the "touch and release" bracing allows the top to ring for longer, the internal binding top the top and back is as minimal as possible without compromising structural integrity, and the wood is very carefully selected for the correct grain properties which allows the soundwaves to be created. And everything is put together by master craftsmen, who love what they do, and this shows.

Beginning back in early 2019, all Kanile'a models came with Kanile'a TRU-R bracing. The TRU-R bracing pattern allows even less contact between the braces and top allowing for a truer vibration and a noticeable increase in sustain on all models. Modern Kanile'a K-1 models come with an updated ebony headstock faceplate and white pearl inlays giving them the modern classic look we all know and love. This K-1T features the special 25th anniversary label.
