Pete Howlett 'Deux Yeux' - AAA Hawaiian Koa Twin Soundhole Tenor Ukulele

£1,499.00 £1,249.17

Pete Howlett has well and truly entered his experimental stage with another fantastic prototype that plays with soundhole positioning and tonal movement... What does that even mean? Well, it means Pete is figuring out what happens when you point the sound out of certain points in the top of a ukulele...

This double soundhole tenor ukulele has it all figured out! The bulk of the sound, tone and volume disperses beautifully out of the side sound hole mounted into the upper bout. The ukulele compresses and projects itself across the room out of the two smaller twin holes in the top. Much like the Gemini model Pete made for us at the same time, the 'Deux Yeux' offers a completely different kind of ukulele experience and it's wonderful that this far into his career, Pete is wanting to reinvent the wheel into a shape that carries the ukulele further than ever before.

The action on this tenor has been set nice and low and easy to play, and this really works with the wound C and G strings. We have experimented with unwound C and G strings, and it really did not like it as the sound became a lot thinner and the strings started to rattle on the fretboard. So, be aware that you will probably have to stick with the wound strings, as they are the best choice for this instrument.
