Pono MN-20 Big Baritone "Nui" 8 String Solid Spruce/Mahogany in case

What a thoroughly lovely instrument this is! The first thing that struck me is that any ukulele player could instantly capture pretty much all of the 12 string guitar vibe and sound with one of these, without having to learn about another pesky couple of courses of strings. Tuned EBGD, just like the top 4 strings of a guitar and like all standard Baritone ukuleles, it is strung with octave courses on the D and G, and unison courses on the E and B. So the gauges of acoustic guitar strings we use for this Baritone 8 string tuning are as follows:

D: 13 32
G: 9 22
B: 15 15
E: 11 11

This instrument really takes the 8 string ukulele concept forwards in a great leap. The Kala Baritone 8 string model (which uses Aquila strings) is lovely, but with the steel strings, this one opens up new possibilities, and has the potential to add so much to any uke players armoury.

It can also be tuned (with a change of strings) to the octave Mandolin configuration in fifths of unison G, unison D, unison A and unison E. Both sets of strings will be available to purchase from Ko'olau soon, but you could use a couple of sets of Acoustic guitar light gauge strings to achieve each tuning. You would want acoustic guitar strings in these gauges:
