Romero Creations TT6-SM Tiny Tenor 6 string Guitalele Guilele Solid Spruce/Mahogany
The very first thing a purist will say about this instrument is that the shape is unconventional. That is certainly true but the almost Mandocello like approach Pepe Romero has taken with this instrument offers a lot more than you might think. This Guitalele has a gorgeous poise to its sound with more balance than many of the other guitaleles I have tried which tend to sound quite flat with very little sustain.
When you consider that this instrument would fit in your average suitcase but retains the bubbliness of a Ukulele AND the depth and tonal options of a Guitar, it really is worth your attention.
The thru-bridge is a unique feature in the classical guitar world but much more familiar to us Ukulele folk and it adds something visually to the instrument. The whole thing feels compact, refined and very modern but the sounds it produces are tinged with an almost pocket like Rodrigo y Gabriella or Julian Bream sound in the hands of a skilled player.
The final thing of note is the Gotoh Planetary tuners which could spoil the whole thing if a lesser manufacturer was at the helm but here they offer balance and poise taking away the classical guitars signature slotted headstock and geared tuners in place of something precise and a modern spin on Ukulele/banjo tradition.
Picture shows an average example.
