Flight Phantom Left Handed All Solid Acacia Electro Acoustic Tenor Ukulele w/Gigbag #1
The Flight Phantom is the Flight model that inspired us to start doing the brand... This acacia tenor ukulele has literally everything you can think of going for it. It's solid acacia and is utterly gorgeous. It sounds mellow and sweet but still has enough volume to work well in an ensemble.
The gloss finish manages to add a lot to the overall look of the instrument whilst also doing a great job of tightening up the overall sound. So, you can get lovely short snappy notes out of the ukulele but also get a nice almost harp like chord sound when you strum.
The front and back black binding looks great. The very modern looking sleek slotted headstock does nothing to detract away attention from the lovely wood they put on the body. The Flight Phantom is also one of the rare tenor ukuleles out there at this price to feature a slightly wider 38mm nut width (string spacing of 30mm at the nut) and a pin bridge.
It's so interesting how Flight models take the popular features of other ukuleles and put them together... The first time I opened the bag on this ukulele I said it reminded me of a Pono ATD. I stand by that first impression as time has passed and I am writing this now.
The Phantom now comes with a Double (brand name) powered piezo pickup with tone and volume controls, which sounds fantastic plugged into our Ortega H-One amp. I am sure it is capable of whatever you want from it.
If I was to be overly critical of this model I would say that the only thing that lets it down are tiny cosmetic flaws in the finish... The gloss is 95% of the way there but in certain lights on the first few of these we have seen there are pin-pricks where the gloss has run slightly. This sounds like the end of the world but is actually extremely common on all modern finishes - even on Kanile'a ukes at 5-6 times the price! So, you shouldn't let this observation influence whether you choose a Flight over something else. The Flight is still better finished than many other ukuleles we see every day.
We have converted this one to a lefty and fitted it with a low G.

Note: The Flight Ukuleles are a fantastic choice at this particular price point because they often offer extra features and striking wood that defy the expectations of this price. However, they do suffer from cosmetic flaws and small finish defects like other Chinese made production instruments. We do our best to capture major issues but you may find some small imperfections on close inspection that cannot be avoided.
