Kiwaya KS-1G ECO series Mahogany Soprano w/Geared Tuners
Kiwaya are famously the company that took the beloved Martin vintage soprano ukulele and recreated it for the modern audience...
They are a company with 100 years of their own in the ukulele business who produce fantastic ukes that resonate with audiences that have one eye or ear on the past but want reliability. Japan has long been one of the key ukulele markets of the world with many of the Hawaiian builders drawing inspiration from Japanese luthiers.
The KS-1G is a fairly unique beast in all of this - part of Kiwaya's Japanese made eco series it is made of super-laminate mahogany.
What's that, we hear you ask?
Well, if you unpack the marketing; the eco series ukes are ultra thin laminate instruments that somehow glue two pieces of wood together thin enough that the top is still extremely stiff and resonant. Durability is quite important to a lot of players. The benefit of a laminate is that it will sound as good on day 10000 as it sounds on day 1.
The KS-1G has a laminate mahogany body with a mahogany neck. The fingerboard is walnut and the bridge is dyed maple.
You really can't go wrong with this soprano ukulele. The modern eco series ukes even have a wider 37mm nut width and come with clear Fremont strings.
