Kala Revelator - NSL-KOA-T Hawaiian Koa Tenor Ukulele - Limited Edition Whiskey Sunburst Finish

The Revelator line-up for 2024 continues to impress us at Southern Ukulele Store. Markos and the team in the Kala USA custom shop have started hitting their stride with interesting stains and finishes. Perhaps, none more so than this beautiful Hawaiian koa tenor ukulele; finished in a whiskey sunburst.

When the first prototype Revelators came through from Pete Howlett; the most prized were Hawaiian koa. Eventually, Pete settled on the rarer and less well known korina wood as the standard model but the few and far between Hawaiian koa models were the most sought after. They produce a mellower, sweeter and altogether more tropical sounding Revelator uke. The sound is more filtered and the notes feel a bit more wrapped in cotton wool as they hit your ear. They are a delight... Kala have finished this model in a gorgeous and complex whiskey sunburst finish. It sounds Hawaiian but looks as if it was made in the back of the Jack Daniel's whiskey distillery!

Pete Howlett who invented the Revelator before Kala took on the Revelator name has always described the uke design as an 'acoustic anomaly'. Basically, he means that it has no right sounding as good as it does acoustically. If you have never heard a Revelator before you might see the slimline body and assume that there is going to be no acoustic volume or projection. And you wouldn't be more wrong! It is loud, lively and characterful, with a fuller tone than it has a right to make.

In the hand, it is so light (without ever feeling fragile), because it is not a solid body instrument. The body is routed out before the top is glued to it, so very clever acoustic chambers are created which pump out this supernaturally rich and vibrant sound. And when you plug it in, you'll notice a very high quality sound through the installed passive piezo pickup.
