The D-series is one of many exciting new production line Kanile'a ukes to filter through in recent years. With very few being made each year, this model builds on the foundations of the 2020 and 2021 platinum models, the offset D shape soundhole and side port create a more detailed and textured tone for the player than any other Kanile'a before.

Under the top on this tenor ukulele is a special bracing pattern designed by Joe and Ka'hiau Souza that channels the sound to resonate upwards towards the players ear. It's actually fascinating covering up the individual soundholes to see just what a massive difference each one makes to the overall sound. You wouldn't turn your speakers away from you when listening to music so why would you turn your soundhole outwards if you didn't need to?

We have long been fans of the D series ukes and have felt jealous with some of Kanile'a's recent custom shop ukuleles featuring this design with alternative tops, so this special DC-T tenor ukulele has premium Hawaiian koa back and sides paired with a Western red cedar top. The traditional slimline slotted headstock adds some elegance to the overall look of the ukulele whilst also putting a bit more torque on the strings as they come through the nut - this gives the uke a touch more responsiveness and with the offset soundhole you can really notice each individual nuance that bit more.

Cedar and koa together allows the player to get a traditional, bright and harp like ukulele sound whilst having the soft wood top needed to get a more vibrant dynamic range and some warmer frequencies out of your uke. You can't go wrong with cedar and koa together frankly!

The black Gotoh stealth tuners are a fan favourite with Kanile'a players and the stunning traditional look of the wood and forward thinking nature of the body design make for an heirloom quality ukulele. Sweet but confident and direct - just wow!
