Fanner Exosphere Solid Body Electric Tenor Ukulele - Candy Apple Green
The rise of solid body ukuleles has been sudden and extremely exciting... Flight and Risa have established these designs as viable and modern alternatives to the electric guitar and have captured the heart of thousands of players and Fanner are established as well with an audience worldwide that seemingly can't recommend them enough.
These exosphere ukuleles are made in Cape Town, South Africa, by the Fanner brothers offering a familiar design but with a more compact and aesthetically trimmed body and a unique sound coming from 3 tiny single coil pickups.
Fanner are very proud that most parts are produced in house for these ukuleles with the exception of the pickups and machine heads.
The exosphere bodies are built to order for Southern Ukulele Store - the body is hand shaped, sanded and sprayed in house. This method of everything being done by a single luthier or team of brothers really add to the vibe of the whole thing - something previously unavailable in the ukulele world.
The pickups are unique to this tenor ukulele; a trio of hand scatter wound, wax potted and soaked in hot bees wax single coil pickups with alnico 5 magnets. For many, this is considered the natural upgrade from ukes like the Flight pathfinder and even the more premium priced point Risa solid body ukuleles.
This exosphere is a tenor ukulele with a conventional 17'' scale length, 34mm nut and reclaimed sugar pine body. The finish is an otherworldly candy apple green metallic colour and the finish continues throughout the bolt on neck and headstock The bridge saddles are adjustable, the nut is hand carved and the neck is maple. It's a machine! We love it.
Listing shows actual instrument you will receive. Cosmetically, these are around an 9/10 - they are built in a very old fashioned way with a lot of hand shaping and traditional painting/finishing. As Mentioned in our videos on Fanner; part of what keeps them affordable is the lack of modern techniques and automation. Cosmetic perfection is lovely but part of what makes these so charming is the more rustic lived in feel.
