What a spectacular instrument this Kanile'a K-1 T5 solid select Hawaiian koa 5 string tenor ukulele is! We're almost in unanimous agreement here at SUS that Kanile'a truly make some of, if not, THE most stunning ukulele's in the world. They truly have it all, the instruments, the location, the history. As the years have ticked by they really have dug their heels in as top dogs.

The company's master luthier and owner Joe Souza is an 8 string man himself and is a big fan of double course instruments like 8, 6 and 5 strings. The shape and poise of a Kanile'a 5 string is designed with the subtly elongated paddle headstock and clever dual slot for the G strings in the bridge. They don't feel heavy, unbalanced or cumbersome, somehow a Kanile'a 5 string is a joyful and effortless experience.

They feel so light in the hand, thanks to the bracing and beautifully refined, high quality thin wood being used, in this case select Hawaiian Koa which was chosen for its unique look. This one stands out on its own due to the unique mix of colours across the wood with visible light heart wood. Stunning!

Beginning back in early 2019, all Kanile'a models came with Kanile'a TRU-R bracing. The TRU-R bracing pattern allows even less contact between the braces and top allowing for a truer vibration and a noticeable increase in sustain on all models. Modern Kanile'a K-1 models come with an updated ebony headstock faceplate and white pearl inlays giving them the modern classic look we all know and love.
