USED Kanile'a K-1 C Silk Finish - Hawaiian Koa Concert Ukulele w/Pod Case (2014)
Preowned Ukuleles are available only to UK customers.
The Ukulele has evolved dramatically in just 10 years with the most clear evolution happening over in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii at Kanile'a... Since the company started in 1998, Joe Souza (and now his sons) have reshaped, redesigned and breathed new leases of life into Ukulele design. As players took the instrument more seriously around the world; Kanile'a have been there one step ahead the whole time.
That makes an instrument like this such a fun piece of recent history for the instrument we all love... a 2014 example of a Kanile'a Concert. The K-1 with an early silk finish; a process that involves glossing the Ukulele and then buffing it back to a shiny almost french polished natural state. This finish allows the instrument to sound aged from new and as a result; 10 years feels and behaves more like 30 years on the eyes and in your hands. 10 years ago Kanile'a K-1 ukuleles would regularly be natural and traditional looking like this with an all Hawaiian Koa top, back and sides. The faceplate is Koa and the ukulele features an indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge (disonctinued in 2019). The fret dots are abalone and the vibe of this ukulele is off the charts!
If you love Hawaiian Ukuleles and have longed to get a played in Kanile'a Concert this is a treat. If you own a modern Kanile'a and want a tangible glimpse into the progress this company has made in just a decade then this will excite you!
Condition is 8/10. There are some marks around the body and a few little scuffs at the headstock where the original owner used a strap. None of this patina should stop you from falling in love. Wabu-Sabi is the perfect time to describe this Ukulele... the imperfections add to the instrument; it's tiny battle scars are part of what make it special. It's been loved, it's been played and that is never a bad thing.
