Alex here;

My first Ukulele was a baritone. I have always been drawn to that DGBE tuning and I totally understand why other singers or solo instrumentalists find the Baritone as their safe space. The bridge between the Ukulele and Guitar with a little bit more depth and warmth to it... Even typing it, it sounds inviting!

As a kid learning Guitars, I found I always got on best with Rotosound Classical guitar strings. I liked how the silver windings on the strings feel softer in your hands than D'Addario or Ernie ball and as I grew older I started to really appreciate how lucky we are in the UK to have something so culturally significant to the music world. I mean, Rotosound made Jimi Hendrix's strings and now they make yours...

The Ukes With Alex range are UK made clear Nylon strings; made a bit thicker and made to stretch a bit less than a typical Ukulele nylon string. I like to think that they sound like 'old hawaiian music' but feel like the kind of modern Fluorocarbon string that is popular at my store.

A Baby Baritone string set is something i have been experimenting with for the last 18 months. I wanted it to be right; I didn't want to just make a string that offered the same thing as the Romero Creations Baby Baritone strings that have always dominated this tiny little pocket of the Ukulele world. I fitted these strings to my own Kanile'a 17'' scale Tenor Ukuleles and performed more than 50 gigs with these sets across those instruments before deciding it sounded tasty enough to put on the menu!

If you want to hear the strings, they are being used on the Kanile'a in the middle of this video.

The gauges used are almost identical to my existing Baritone Low D set which is Southern Ukulele Stores best selling set of strings. The D and G strings are nylon core strings with silver winding; with diameters of .036 and .029 they should sit nicely in most nut slots without adjustment. The tension is low to medium as you might expect tuning to such a low pitch on a Tenor scale but they notes ring out lovely and only slightly overpower the voicebox of a Tenor Ukulele giving a balanced, deep DGBE tone.

The treble strings are .040 (B) and .032 (E) because I feel that a slightly thicker and tighter string is needed to pull the sparkly notes out of a Tenor Ukulele at a lower pitch of B and E.

Made in the UK, packaging is in prototype stage.

D - Silverwound .036w Clear Nylon
G - Silverwound .029w Clear Nylon
B - Clear Nylon .040
E - Clear Nylon .032
