USED KoAloha Koa Concert Ukulele in Hard Case - Made 1999

£500.00 £500.00

As much as it pains me to write this listing - we are selling one of the most cherished instruments that I have ever owned; an extremely rare KoAloha Koa Concert made in November 1999. The instrument sings, it has lots of bark for a Concert and the kind of unrefined patina and charm that manufacturers and instruments lose once they are built over many decades and the process is slightly more automated. This KoAloha Concert shares very little resemblance to modern KoAloha KCM-00's - it's a different shape with a different bridge, bracing and a simpler neck. The first time I looked at it I thought it was 40 years old rather than 20.

Take a moment to just admire the photos and look at how KoAloha have really challenged Pops' original Ukulele design. The headstock is unmistakably KoAloha but for my money this instrument is more like a vintage Kamaka or a vintage Martin. I have tossed and turned at night debating whether to let this Ukulele go because I know how unlikely it is I will ever come across another one. I have been here ten years this month and I have only ever come across this example of a vintage KoAloha. If you are a collector or a player that wants a concert with a brighter sound and a bit of personality then check this out.

The condition is about 6/10 - the neck feels great if a bit played in but you will find some dings and scrapes on the body as well as some strum wear over the sweet spot that the original owner enthusiastically put there in the first chapter of it's life.

The nut width is 37mm and the neck shape is a little bit thinner than modern KoAloha/Kanile'a designs. It's a joy to play but from my time with it I concluded it is definitely a strummers Uke.

We are supplying this instrument with my old Kinsman case which has some stickers on. If you want them removed before we send it out - don't hesitate to ask. One final thing, this Ukulele has a very unique bridge with a thin saddle and deep slots for the strings and as a result; will not take a MiSI pickup without heavy modification that we would not be willing to do.
