A fantastic Ukulele from Turnpike - a brand that I believe has moved its attention back away from Ukuleles to Guitars. Terrible shame.. This Ukulele has a couple of surface scratches but remains one of the biggest sounding chunkiest Baritone Ukuleles we have ever had.

WHAT WE SAID WHEN IT WAS NEW...

These Baritones are an extraordinary leap forward from the lovely Peter Jacobs of Turnpike Guitars and Ukuleles. Based in Weymouth, his latest batch of Tenors and Baritones are beautiful in every respect - choice cuts of top quality woods (locally sourced where possible), extremely high quality of workmanship, and a worthy alternative to Big Island and the Pono Pro Classics.

What you do have to bear in mind is that with any artisan made instrument, it is very difficult to achieve the high level of finish that a factory would be able to achieve - so please expect small flaws in the finish. Nothing major, but small cosmetic things. Console yourself with the thought that if they were finished to the highest standard as well as built to the highest standard you would be spending over £1000 as the finishing is the longest and most time consuming part of the work!

Now, these are all about the sound. And rich, loud and ringing they are too. The necks are superbly comfortable in the hand, and very easy to fret on owing to the slinky profile and 38mm nut width that just feels perfect on a Baritone scale Ukulele.

This Ukulele seems to have more soul than any new Ukulele has the right to have. Turnpike's all seem to be very different from one to the other and this Baritone would make a perfect companion to a blues player or somebody that wants the notes to really ring out when they play a melody. The Mazur Birch headstock veneer on this model is particularly stunning in the flesh like painted flames and the unique 'Bog Oak' fretboard has a lovely long grain open pore texture that tells its own story.
