£799.00 £665.83

Check out the stunning new Wildcat all solid African amazique tenor ukulele

Paul Barnard (Wildcat) is an experienced and quite frankly blossoming ukulele builder from Oswestry on the England/Welsh border here in the UK. His ukuleles feel to me very 'English' with an intangible folk music quality to them.

The woods used are often responsible and in this case the use of solid ovangkol (also known as Amazique), a beautiful African hardwood that many find has the natural warmth and present low mid response of mahogany but also a bit more projection like rosewood or ebony. It's a great combination, we'd probably be paying through the nose for this wood if we had started using it in instrument manufacturing 100 years ago... Instead it makes for a refined but quite affordable tonal choice.

This Wildcat tenor uke really suits its satin finish and the multiwood soundhole rosette and subtle front binding all make for a really classy looking instrument, traditional but with the uniqueness that luthier built workshop instruments need. The addition of the small side sound port really opens up the projection and changes the tonality of the instrument for the better and the comfort bevel in the lower bout makes the uke look great but also feel more comfortable to the player too.

The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian rosewood and the pins match. Wooden bridge pins are a bit of a secret weapon to getting the most out of a uke or guitars sound. They create a truer, more natural and resonant response between the string and the top... There is nothing wrong with plastic bridge pins seen on many instruments but the wooden pins keep a bit more of the bass and sparkle where it matters.

One small note, if you are a lefty - Paul has included side markers on the fingerboard on both sides. Bonus!
